Etymology It is unclear why Treadwell chose the name as all Hydroides have opercula. His specimen was endowed with two, but he didn’t name it ‘bioperculata’. [details]

Spelling Eupomatus operculata was Treadwell's original spelling but as Eupomatus is masculine this was incorrect and it should have been operculatus. [details]
