Authority Levinsen (1882) with 'Terebelliformia' predates Hatschek (1893) with 'Terebellomorpha'. Currently authors are using 'Terebelliformia' [details]

Spelling Holthe (1986) is one of the last prominent Terebellida specialists to use the spelling 'Terebellomorpha' for the suborder, with 'Terebelliformia' mostly used (eg Stiller et al 2020). As the other annelid suborders use the suffix 'formia,' the spelling 'formia' of the terebellid suborder has been adopted for consistency across the phylum and for historical priority. Levinsen (1882) with 'Terebelliformia' predates Hatschek (1893) with 'Terebellomorpha'. Names of higher classifications are not regulated and the name in use for a suborder is a matter of convention, and prevailing usage. [details]
