Type material Holotype, female, 7.2 mm, NMV J67817, south of Point Hicks, Victoria, Australia (38°16.40'S 149°27.60'E), 800 m, coarse shell and biogenic sediments, WHOI epibenthic sled, 23 July 1986, M.F. Gomon et al., RV Franklin [SLOPE 34]. Paratypes, 5 specimens, 5.9–8.1 mm, NMV J67818, same collection details as holotype. [details]

Etymology Named for James Dana, the great American geologist and mineralogist who acted as naturalist on the US Exploring Expedition....
Etymology Named for James Dana, the great American geologist and mineralogist who acted as naturalist on the US Exploring Expedition. His publications on the amphipods of that expedition have greatly influenced the study of amphipods ever since. His naming of the Lysianassidae in 1849 set the stage for the study of the largest and most diverse group amphipods. [details]
