Etymology Palaenotus silopsis "refers to this species being very similar in appearance to [Paleanotus] silus. Silus refers to the pug-nosed shape of the main paleae and the Latin suffix ‘opsis’ refers to a likeness." Opsis is a feminine noun, presumably used adjectivally here modifying a masculine adjective 'silus', although at genus-level 'opsis' names are feminine. Probably invariant with genus gender change.
