Etymology Not stated in the original description, but according to Pat Hutchings (personal communication, 12 January 2017), the generic epithet tyira is an Aboriginal word meaning 'wind', and refers to the constant winds that characterise Abrolhos Islands, where the type species of the genus was collected: ''Abrolhos is noted for its wind and no trees, with nearby mainland trees all growing at 45 degrees because of the prevailing wind''.
