Taxonomy Tang & Tang erected Parabucephalopsis, with its type-species P. prosthorchis, at the National Congress of Parasitology held in Beijing in 1963. Their abstract from this meeting was published in 1964. According to Shimazu (2014), this abstract contains no descriptions and, consequently, he considered Parabucephalopsis Tang & Tang, 1963 (1964) and P. prosthorchis Tang & Tang, 1963 (1964) as nomina nuda. Overstreet & Curran (2002), in their revision of the Bucephalidae, included ‘Parabucephalopsis Tang & Tang, 1963’ in their key, based on a subsequent description of the type-species by Long & Lee (1964) (from a different host and locality), but considered it as a genus inquirendum. Later, Tang & Tang (1976 – listed as 1963 by Overstreet & Curran) included some differentiation of both Parabucephalopsis and P. prosthorchis plus six illustrations and some life-history data for the latter species.
