Classification The phylogenomic results of Mongiardino Koch et al. (2022) show that Apatopygus recens is not related to the remaining ‘cassiduloids’ but is instead the sister clade to all other sampled neognathostomates. Apatopygidae are thus placed directly in the Neognathostomata here, the remaining extant neognathostomates were united in the new clade Luminacea by Mongiardino Koch et al. (2022) [details]
