Diagnosis Test small, up to 0.5 mm in length, ovoid, chambers in quinqueloculine arrangement as in the miliolids but slightly more than a half coil in length, so that those of successive whorls are offset, chambers widest at their base and narrowing toward the aperture; wall of imperforate opaline silica, thin, homogeneous, insoluble in hydrochloric acid, ultrastructure of inner and outer organic membranes and a median layer of mineralized tubular rods, the mineralized layer consisting of two sheets of a two-dimensional array of rods aligned parallel to the wall surface, separated by a median layer that has a threedimensional random array of rods in an open mesh, the rods circular to angular in section, test surface smooth; aperture a low arch at the open end of the final chamber, with a broad simple tooth.
