The upper sublittoral of the north-western coast of Cuba Island is characterized by abundance of spongiofauna. Sponges are found at 64 stations from 99. Spongiofauna of this region is presented by 38 species. Regularities are observed in distribution of the sponges by biotopes: 20 species of sponges inhabit the thickets of Thalassia. 6 species - in the biotope of sand with Thalassia, 17 - in the sand biotope and 8 species are found in the biotope of silt. A zoogeographical review was made of spongiofauna in the region under investigation. Sponges found at the north-western coasts of Cuba Island are divided into three groups with respect to zoogeography: tropical, tropical and boreal and widely distributed species.
