Die zoologische Literatur besitzt nur wenige Angaben über die Auffindung von Anneliden an den Küsten Japans. Auch die vorliegende Arbeit kann nicht beanspruchen, diese Lücke auszufüllen, sie versucht nur künftigen Forschungen die Bahn zu eröffnen. Das Material fand sich theils in einer grossen Sammlung wirbelloser Thiere, welche Herr Dr. Richard Ritter von Dräsche-Wartinberg auf seiner geologischen Reise um die Erde in den Jahren 1875 und 1876 durch seinen Reisebegleiter Herrn Dr. Carl Koerbl anlegen liess und dem k. k. zoologischen Hofcabinete zum Geschenke machte, theils wurde es von einem anderen Österreicher, Herrn Dr. A. v. Roretz, der seit Jahren in Japan weilt, acquirirt. Dr. Koerbl sammelte an der Ostküste der Insel Eno-sima bei Yokohama und an einem südlicher gelegenen Punkte, in der Bai von Miya, unweit Nagoya in der Strandzone bis zu Tiefen von 20 Metern. Herr Dr. A. v. Roretz hielt sich gleichfalls in Yokohama und an mehreren Punkten der Inseln Kiuschiu und Shikoku auf, leider fehlten aber meist bei den einzelnen Objecten nähere Angaben. Es gehören also die Anneliden, welche ich sämnitlich mit Ausnahme der Terebella-, Sabella-, Myxicola- und Serpula-Arten in diesem vorliegendem I. Theile bearbeitete, Süd-Japan an und hier wieder nur der Ostküste; der westlichste Punkt ist Nagasaki.
