Etymology The name of the genus Pseudeulalia is composed by the Greek prefix pseudo-, meaning 'false' or 'fake', and the name of the genus Eulalia Savigny, 1822, and according to the author refers to the resemblance of the new genus with Eulalia, especially with E. bilineata, from which differs mainly by the lack of a median antenna: ''Obgleich die vorhandenen Exemplare in so vielen Beziehungen an Eulalia bilineata erinnern, habe ich es für geeignet erachtet, für sie eine neue Art aufzustellen, hauptsächlich, weil sämtliche keine unpaare Antenne haben. Es dürfte dann nötig sein, für diese Art eine neue Gattung zu errichten, Pseudeulalia, die sich von Eulalia nur durch das Fehlen einer unpaaren Antenne unterscheidet'' (Eliason, 1962: 234).  [details]

Taxonomy Pleijel (1991:245) refers that the main difference between Pseudeulalia and Protomystides Czerniavsky, 1882 is that Pseudeulalia exigua is provided with cylindrical ventral tentacular cirri on segment 2, whereas these are flattened in Protomystides. The author tentatively synonymizes the two genera, pending further information. Hartmann-Schröder (1996: 123) considered the two genera as synonymous.  [details]
