Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Augener (1918: 551-552): "Terebellide von Thelepus- bzw. Grymaea-artigem Habitus und mit Thelepus-artigen Haken ohne Fortsatz vorn am unteren Ende 3 Paar Thelepus-artige Kiemen vom 2. Segment an, Haarborsten vom 2. Segment, Haken vom 5. Segment (4. Borstensegment) an vorhanden. Haarborstenzone von verschiedener Ausdehnung, bei dieser Art beschränkt auf eine vordere Körperstrecke." [details]

Etymology Not stated. The name of the genus is composed by the Greek prefix pseudo-, meaning 'false', followed by the name of the genus Thelepus Leuckart, 1849, and refers probably to the resemblance between the two genera. [details]

Synonymy Authors Garraffoni & Lana (2008:605) stated Day (1967) synonymised Pseudothelepus Augener with Streblosoma, but this is not correct. They may to be misinterpreting a species identification correction by Day (1967 p.772). Day does not include Pseudothelepus as a synonym of Streblosoma. However, dos Santos et al (2010: 7), in discussion of Streblosoma patriciae, placed Pseudothelepus nyanganus in Streblosoma as S. nyanganus [details]
