Introduction: In this and the two succeeding parts are embodied the palaeontological results of a somewhat exhaustive study of the material brought up by borings in the Mallee near Ouyen, numbered 1-11. The actual boring was carried out between August, 1908, and August, 1909. The borings are all in the County of Weeah, and commence at about six miles east of the South Australian boundary, and fifty miles north of the 36th parallel at Pinaroo. The bores are situated at distances of two to four miles apart.
