Identification Goffredi et al (2023 redetermine Burreson's records from Oregon of Aestabdella abditovesiculata as a new species, Pterobdella occidentalis. This is apparently what they mean by their article title phrase " Pterobdella occidentalis n. sp. (Hirudinida: Piscicolidae) for P. abditovesiculata (Moore, 1952)" and by their abstract phrase "Originally described as Aestabdella abditovesiculata, P.
occidentalis (present along the U.S. Pacific Coast)," Aestabdella abditovesiculata (originally described by Moore from Hawaii, and now in Peterobdella) remains a valid species unaffected by their findings; they are resolving a misidentification (the species are closely related molecularly) by Burreson in 1976 of specimens from Oregon.
