Editor's comment Diesing (1851) misspelled Ochetostoma as Ochetostomum. It is uncertain what was intended by the suffix alteration as stoma is unobjectionable as a spelling, but at the time subsequent name 'improvement' was not unusual. He may have thought the gender-specific suffix required the -um ending, and did not regard the change as significant. Diesing did not include the original spelling in his list of Ochetostomum synonyms, and there is no 'statement of intention' (Art.33.2.1). However, this action might qualify as an unjustified emendation of Ochetostoma because "both the original and the changed spelling are cited and the latter is adopted in place of the former" (ICZN 1999: Art. 33.2.1). If so then Ochetostomum is available with its own author and date and is a junior objective synonym of Ochetostoma Rüppell & Leuckart, 1828. [details]
