A new species of the dinoflagellate genus Ceratocorys Stein is described from the Caribbean Sea. Ceratocorys anacantha sp. nov. is characterized by a spineless polyglonal body bearing large depressions with rounded pores on all thecal plates, and most of all, by its unique epithecal plate pattern, in which plate 3' is in dorsal position while in other Ceratocorys species this plate is found on the right side of the epitheca. As a consequence, plate 4' is very large, and occupies almost three quarters of the right side of the epitheca. The dorsal position of plate 3' places Ceratorys anacantha between the typical gonyaulacoid and ceratocoryoid tabulation patterns. Plate formula: P(o)3' 1a 5' 6C 5S 6' 1p 1''. Ceratocorys anacantha is closely related to a spineless Ceratocorys cell illustrated by Graham which has a similar sulcal area but different epithecal plate pattern. It is proposed to give the name of Ceratocorys grahamii sp. nov. to Graham's specimen, which does not correspond to any of the known species of Ceratocorys.
