Type material Type locality is “San Francisco, California.” A description of skull characteristics is provided and states that “three skulls of adults of this species, obtained at San Francisco, California, are in the Smithsonian collection.” These skulls exist as syntypes (USNM 1961, 1962, and 1963) at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C.
