Taxonomy Di Geronimo & La Perna (1997) raised Thestyleda to full genus, arguing that "The partly lamellar and overlapping teeth are distinctive of Thestyleda, and are completely chevron-shaped in Nuculana. (...) Thestyleda shows a world-wide deep-sea distribution, whereas Nuculana has a mainly boreal shelf distribution.". However, Huber (2010) treated Thestyleda as a synonym of Nuculana on the grounds that species from Japan show a wide array of transitional morphologies. [details]
