Seven specimens of Pra1l1l!1Sfie XIIostiS (0. F. Muller, 1776) were collected with a dip net in the harbor at Barnstable, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Barnstable is located on the northern shore of Cape Cod where water temperatures are several degrees lower than those on the southern shore. These specimens were taken April 3.0, 1960, at low tide over a silty-sand bottom at depths of 'l2 to 1 m below the surface where depths to the bottom were 1 to 1 ~ m. Four specimens are males with lengths (anterior carapace margin to the telson posterior end): 15.5, 17.5, 18, and 19 mm. Three specimens are females with lengths: 19.5, 21, and 25 nun. PrrlllJ1"SfIeXIIosliS is one of the most abundant mysids inhabiting the shallow waters of Great Britain, and :s common along the coasts of Denmark, Holland, and northern France. Except for one doubtful report from the Black Sea, this species has not been recorded from outside the north European area (Tattersall & Tattersall, 1951). Thus, its occurrence in American waters poses an intriguing question. Has it been an inhabitant of this seacoast for thousands of years, or has it colonized here in recent centuries or decades?
