Recent ostracode faunas from the Kenyan barrier reef yielded numerous specimens, which, as currently defined, are assigned to the genus Mutilus Neviani 1955. The Kenyan material was compared with Plio-/Pleistocene specimens from the Eastern Mediterranean, with several other specimens from the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific Region and with representatives of related genera. The investigations were based on morphological characteristics as well as on differences in hinge-structures and central muscle-scar patterns. The observed differences justify, in the opinion of the author, a separation of these Recent species from the genus Mutilus s. str., which is only known from the Plio-/Pleistocene of the Mediterranean. For these species two new genera are erected: Auradilus gen. nov. and Tepidiora gen. nov. The following species are assigned to Auradilus: Cythere packardi Brady 1880, Hemicythere pentoekensis Kingma 1948, Mutilus splendideornatus splendideornatus Hartmann 1974, Mutilus splendideornatus australiensis Hartmann 1978, Mutilus parallelicostatus Hartmann 1978, Radimella costata Hu 1979 and Mutilus falcatus Witte 1993. Mutilus variornatus Hartmann 1978 is assigned to Tepidiora. The species Auradilus gravis sp. nov., Tepidiora? patriciae sp. nov. and the subspecies Tepidiora variornata indica subsp. nov. are described as new.
