A new species and a new record of Sthenelais (Polychaeta, Sigalionidae) for Argentina. Sthenelais tehuelcha sp. nov. is described and Sthenelais helenae Kinberg is recorded for the first time for the southwestern Atlantic Ocean. The specific characters of S. tehuelcha sp. nov. are as follows: notopodial bracts without stylodes; anterior part of notopodial acicular lobes with stylodes. Neuropodia without stylodes except on segments 2° to 7°. Length:width ratio of distal blades of stout middle neurosetae from 4:1 to 8:1. Middle neurosetae of 2° parapodium compound falcigerous with stout and short blades of two articles.
