Day suggests possible synonymy with Hemilepidia erythrotaenia Schmarda, 1861 but the synonymy was accepted by Kristian Fauchald in 2008 (he had seen the types NHMUK 1885.12.1.49 on 19 September 2003). Status in 2020 remains as a synonym but future workers may prefer to make Eunoe capensis McIntosh a taxon inquirendum
