Type locality Másatierra (= Robison Crusoe) Island, Juan Fernández Archipelago (Chile), Pacific Ocean (gazetteer estimate -33.63º, -78.82º), 30-45 m, from a dead hydroid theca in a sample of calcareous algae.  [details]
Type material ''The type specimen of the type species was not deposited in Sweden, although it was collected during a Swedish expediton, nor in Hamburg, where Augener lived. Museum curators were unable to find it, therefore the type and only specimen is being regarded as lost.'' (Salazar-Vallejo et al., 2007: 539). [details]

Etymology The species is named in honour of Dr. Kåre Bäckström (18??-19??), Swedish zoologist from Stockholm, PhD in 1924 on the brain morphology of selachians, and who took part in the Swedish Pacific Expedition 1916-1917 to Chile, Easter Island, and Juan Fernández Archipelago, as responsible for the zoological and entomological collections. The type material of the new species was collected during this expedition. [details]
