Drawing of Syracosphaera winteri Keuter, Koplovitz, Zingone, J.R.Young & Frada 2021
Description In life, the basket-like coccoliths of Syracosphaera winteri would be arranged in a complete sphere around the cell, with the openings outwards. Sadly, they typically collapse when prepared for microscopy, and a complete specimen has not yet been found, but this drawing shows what scientists believe it would look like.
