Validity Hyatt’s name is not an available name (as it has a fourth name, ICZN art. 45.5). There are no references to the identity, other than that Spongia vermiculata Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864 is a junior synonym of Spongia (Spongia) barbara Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864. However, it is not likely that this species would occur in the Eastern Pacific, so Van Soest (2024: 30) proposed to assign the specimen to S. (S.) aff. barbara, which is likely an undescribed species. [details]
