Homonymy Lamouroux gave a description of the 'sponge' of Mueller, 1776 named Spongia pocillum, that differs from the original. This would then be a junior primary homonym of Müller's combination. Lamouroux's name was presumably a replacement name for Lamarck's Spongia calyciformis which was preoccupied by Esper's Spongia caliciformis. Both are considered junior synonyms, Lamarck's of Axinella arctica (Vosmaer, 1885), Esper's of Axinella infundibuliformis(Linnaeus, 1759). Spongia pocillum sensu Lamouroux, 1816 is considered the same as Lamarck's Spongia calyciformis, so its assignment to Axinella arctica removed the homonymy with Müller's combination. The latter is not a sponge, but a Rotifer. [details]
