Homonymy Hartman (1959: 257) indicates that Mastigonereis cuprea Schmarda, 1861, when recombined into Nereis is a homonym. This is correct - it is a secondary homonym to Nereis cuprea Bosc, 1802. However, as N. cuprea Bosc belongs in Diopatra, and was moved there long ago, the secondary homonymy was resolved long before Hartman's catalogue was published, and requires no action. Nereis cuprea (Schmarda) is currently an available name. Hartman was probably including into consideration her wrong interpretation that Delle Chiaje had also created a Nereis cuprea new name. He did not. [details]
