Identification Reeve (1849; pl. 5 (Turritella), sp. 16a, b; pl. 1 (Mesalia & Eglisia), sp. 2a, b) unites under the name Mesalia brevialis (Lamarck, 1822) two different species, being the former and Mesalia mesal (Deshayes, 1843). He gives preperence to the Lamarckian name, and adds Le Mesal of Adanson, Turritella mesal Deshayes, 1843; Mesalia sulcata "Gray" [= subsequent recombinaltion of Turritella sulcata Lamarck, 1804] and Turritella varia Kiener, 1843 to its synonymy. All 4 figures provided by Reeve however, are clear Mesalia mesal (Deshayes, 1843). [details]
