Etymology authors: "The specific epithet brevis is Latin for “shallow”, which refers to the type locality of [the] new species, collected in relatively shallow waters compared to Petta assimilis, which is known from a nearby area but in much deeper water." [Editor: Correct. Shallow of depth is one meaning of brevis (versus profundus) in the Lewis & Short Dictionary. Brevis in Latin applied to taxa names is more usually encountered as short in height or narrow in width, also as brief in time, thus brevity in English] [details]
