Homonymy This species name is a junior primary homonym of Tethya multistella var. microstella Von Lendenfeld, 1888. However, that variety must be renamed as the typical (=name-bearing) variety multistella Von Lendenfeld, 1888 (ICZN Art. 46 & 47), thus removing the homonymy with T. microstella Sarà, 1990 (see Van Soest et al. 2020: 40 for further explanation.
