Ten species of the genus Prionospio (Prionospio) are described from Japanese waters. These include five new species, herein named Prionospio (Prionospio) depauperata, P. (P.) lineata, P. (P.) membranacea, P. (P.) paradisea and P. (P.) variegata. Prionospio (Prionospio) anuncata Fauchald, P. (P.) caspersi Laubier and P. (P.) dubia Day are newly recorded from Japan. Prionospio (Prionospio) bocki is redescribed, based on the new material.
