Nomenclature Meuschen (1787) used the name Tamarindiformes at the rank of genus in a work [Museum Geversianum] placed on the Official Index by Opinion 260. "Tamarindiformis Meuschen, 1787" was listed by Herrmannsen, 1849 [Indicis generum malacozoorum primordia, 2: 528], as equal Lithodomus and Modiola, but it was not used as valid by Herrmannsen and is not an available name. Kuroda used Tamarindiformis as a valid genus, included two species and designated Mytilus modiolus Linnaeus, 1758, as type; however he did not provide a description of the genus, which thus remains unavailable.
