Nomenclature An impossible apparent reversed-presentation of subgenus Langerhansia by Czerniavsky, 1881. It is clear that while Czerniavsky wrote his two new species names in the form "Langerhansia (Syllis) new name" (with Syllis not in bold) he did not mean Syllis was placed as a subgenus of his new Langerhansia. That is an impossible combination as an old genus cannot be the subgenus of a new name and he had earlier stated his 'Langerhansia' was a subgenus of Syllis . Czerniavsky may have been unaware the convention for presenting a new subgenus was the reverse of what he used. Some subsequent authors, namely Hartman in her catalogue and Licher (2000: 302) present the names copied literally, without comment, but contemporary authors seem to have understood what Czerniavsky intended and did not further use his apparent strange formulation.
