Taxonomy Huber (2010) treated Thestyleda as a synonym of Nuculana Link, 1807, but this disregards the sound argumentation of Di Geronimo & La Perna (1997) who wrote:
"Thestyleda (...) is worth keeping distinct from Nuculana. The partly lamellar and overlapping teeth are distinctive of Thestyleda, and are completely chevron-shaped in Nuculana. (...) Thestyleda shows a world-wide deep-sea distribution, whereas Nuculana has a mainly boreal shelf distribution. [details]
