Taxonomy Huber (2010: 70, 2015: 436) restored the unused Linnean name Cardium pectinatum Linnaeus, 1758 as an earlier name for the species generally known as Ctena eburnea (Gmelin, 1791), based on a type specimen in Uppsala. However this contradicts the Mediterranean type locality of Cardium pecten, and the reference to Gualteri which implies at least another syntype of Mediterranean origin, so is not followed here. The name has remained unused and should not either be restored for the Mediterranean Ctena decussata (O.G. Costa, 1829) [details]
