Taxonomic remark The species "Eudesia fountaineana Dall, 1890" should not be confused with "Terebratula fontainei d'Orbigny, 1846". Dall (1895, p. 722) notes that he originally found specimens erroneously supposed to be young Terebratula fontaineana, d'Orbigny (which was a synonym of Magellania venosa) and thus he described Eudesia fountaineana Dall, 1890 as a new species. As this name was unavailable Dall (1895) created the new name 'americana' and allocated it to Macandrevia rather than Eudesia. [details]
