Taxonomy Status uncertain. We have not ascertained whether the original taxon has been recorded since the original description. The basis on which Foster placed subspecies 'kolaensis' in a Spio checklist rather than Microspio is unrecorded. Foster did not regard Microspio as a separate genus. Conservatively it was earlier retained here as valid in Microspio, although its parent M. theeli has been transferred to Spio, and the subspecies may also belong there. However, Maciolek (1990: table on p.1114) treated it as in genus Spio and still a subspecies to 'theeli', This placement is now followed. [details]
