Authority Mortensen (1943: p. 39) states: 'According to A. Agassiz, Op. cit 1872[: p. 375, 460] the (sub)family Temnopleuridae was established by Desor in his "Synopsis des Ech. fossiles". I am unable to find such (sub)family named in Desor's work. But under his "Division des Oligopores" (p. 50) he has a group (or type) II, comprising "Ies types a test sculpté, orné de fossettes ..... comprenant les genres Temnopleurus et leur analogues". This corresponds to the family of the Temnopleurids (and Glyphocyphids), and thus far Desor is the author of the family, but the name of the family, Temnopleuridae, dates from A. Agassiz' Revision of the Echini.' [details]
