Description A photosynthetic unarmored dinoflagellate, solitary or forming cell chains. Cells subspherical to shortly ellipsoidal, 37.5–57.5 μm long, 30.0–42.5 μm wide, with the cingulum encircling the cell about twice, an orange pigmented body located in the dorsal side of the epicone. [details]
Identification This species differs from M. polykrikoides by its larger cell size, granular chloroplasts and the sulcus located in the intermediate position of the cingulum. [details]
