Description Cell easily recognizable because of its oval shape and the presence of mucocysts in the posterior end. Cell size: 20–30 μm in length and 15–20 μm in width. As the other raphidophycean algae, it has two flagella of unequal lengths and contains chlorophyll a, c1 and c2. The species can be found either in the water column or in the sediment, in the form of cysts, notably during periods of environmental stress.  [details]

Harmful effect Fish mortality. [details]

Identification Fibrocapsa may be distinguished from species of Chattonella and other raphidophytes by the presence of the bundle of trichocysts in the posterior part of the cel.l [details]
