Taxonomy Hoshino (1981) and before him Tanita (1958) assigned Japanese specimens to Carter's (1882) Esperia plumosa (as Mycale plumosa). However, these specimens do not conform to Carter's material from Mauritius as this possesses palmate isochelae and is currently considered a junior synonym of Mycale (Zygomycale) parishi (Bowerbank, 1875).
